Let us examine the problem of corrosion in weathering steel in more detail. So large quantities of weathering steel A may contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment. But in small quantities weathering steel is non-toxic under the right environmental conditions.

Those who live in environments that are more susceptible to atmospheric corrosion (due to environmental conditions) can allow weathering steel to achieve their desired rust color and then apply sealing materials to help maintain the correct color and integrity of the structure.

What most people are most concerned about with weathering steels is their durability. In the right environment, in raised beds, CORT-TEN steel is corrosion resistant. That's why before it was used for horticultural projects, this steel was chosen for buildings and building structures (broadcast towers in the UK, for example).

However, this resistance depends largely on an area's weather and climate. Proper oxidation occurs during the optimal wet/dry cycle. In areas of high humidity, the durability of CorT-Ten steel can be challenged. In addition, corrosion resistance is lower in areas with salt fog, i.e., coastal areas. People who live on the beach experience higher rates of corrosion in their COR metal beds.

That's why people living in these atmospheric conditions should opt for aluminium-plated galvanized steel beds rather than one-in-one metal beds like Birdies Original 6. Happily, galvanized steel is also safe for gardens!


However, weathering steel layers exposed to fog, snow, rain, or other humid conditions will be protected by corrosion formed on the surfaces of the alloys that make up weathering steel. They have the added benefit of having a distinctive style of colour in the protective coating.
